Football Recap: Pottsboro Extends Winning Streak to Three

While Pottsboro's win against Life Oak Cliff wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cardinals narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Lions 52-49. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cardinals have posted since August 30, 2024.

Pottsboro had a senior duo take command as Carson Nix rushed for 160 yards and three TDs and Zavier Brady picked up 170 receiving yards and a pair of scores. With that strong performance, Brady is now averaging an impressive 111.8 receiving yards per game. Pottsboro also got help from Garrett Dorris, who showed off his sure hands for 84 receiving yards.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Joshua Washington, who rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns, and also picked up 123 receiving yards and three scores. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 71 yards. Another passer making a difference was Camren Phillips, who threw for 297 yards and four TDs while picking up 12.4 yards per attempt.

The victory (which was Pottsboro's third in a row) raised their record to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.0 points over those games. As for Life Oak Cliff, the loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 3-2.

Coming up, Pottsboro will venture away from home to square off against Madison at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals will be up against the Trojans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 43 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Life Oak Cliff, they will host Whitesboro at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 994 yards in their previous games.
