Softball Recap: Avon Has No Trouble Against Silver Creek

Avon barely beat Silver Creek the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Orioles put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 22-12 win on Saturday. The Orioles haven't had any issues with the Dragons recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Brinley Pope was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Willow Harvey was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey Chavez, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.

Avon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .646. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Avon's win bumped their record up to 7-16. As for Silver Creek, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 17-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avon will venture away from home to challenge Westfield at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Silver Creek, they will head out to face off against Floyd Central at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Highlanders will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something the Dragons surely won't give up without a fight.
