Football Game Preview: St. Mark's Lions vs. St. George's Dragons

The St. Mark's Lions will head out on the road to face off against the St. George's Dragons at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (St. Mark's has six straight victories, St. George's has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

St. Mark's had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 21-point drubbing they dealt Governor's Academy on Saturday. The Lions put the hurt on the Governors with a sharp 35-14 win. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won three games by 21 points or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for St. George's offense. They lost 21-0 to Thayer Academy on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Dragons came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 28th in Rhode Island, while the Tigers are ranked 161st in Massachusetts).

St. George's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for St. Mark's, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.

St. Mark's beat St. George's 29-19 in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
