Volleyball Recap: George Stevens Academy Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Woodland

George Stevens Academy faced Woodland in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Eagles fell 3-1 to the Dragons. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Dragons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

George Stevens Academy was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Woodland work for it, especially in the fourth set. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-18, 21-25, 28-26.

Taylor Grego paced George Stevens Academy's offense, picking up eight kills. Grego got some help from Acadia Simmons and her 12 assists. Finally, Layla Hutchins kept George Stevens Academy's defense grounded, leading the team with seven blocks.

This is the second loss in a row for George Stevens Academy and nudges their season record down to 6-3. As for Woodland, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1.

George Stevens Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Wiscasset on the 3rd. Woodland has also already played their next matchup (against Machias), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
