Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sumner-Eddyville-Miller to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jordan Scoville, who rushed for 37 yards and a pair of scores, and also caught one touchdown. Scoville is also on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last four games he's played. Sumner-Eddyville-Miller also got a significant boost from Isaac O'Neill, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 90 yards.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Chance Daake and O'Neill.
Meanwhile, Southwest was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Wauneta-Palisade 55-12. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-6.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller better keep an eye on Houston Billeter. He was instrumental in Southwest's win, throwing for 130 yards and three TDs on only ten passes, while also rushing for 63 yards and one score. Billeter didn't just play on offense: he also made eight total tackles and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Southwest's leading receiver Deric Kelley was Billeter's top target yet again, picking up 88 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's record now sits at 5-1. As for Southwest, their record is now 6-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Sumner-Eddyville-Miller has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 191 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Southwest struggles in that department as they've been averaging 156.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller against Southwest in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 56-22 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
