The Ysleta Indians will face off against the Irvin Rockets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ysleta is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Ysleta got the win against Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy by a conclusive 22-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Indians.
Savannah Jurado made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Cienna Hernandez was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Sophia Terrazas was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Ysleta always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .684. They are 8-1-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Irvin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost 14-2 to Austin.
Irvin saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aleena Flores, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Ysleta's victory bumped their record up to 10-12-1. As for Irvin, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-15.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ysleta has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .503. However, it's not like Irvin struggles in that department as they've averaged .525. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Ysleta's way against Irvin in their previous meeting back in February of 2022, as Ysleta made off with a 15-0 win. Does Ysleta have another victory up their sleeve, or will Irvin turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
