Basketball Preview: Niobrara County Tigers vs. Guernsey-Sunrise Vikings
Niobrara County has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Guernsey-Sunrise Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Niobrara County faced the Doggers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Niobrara County strolled past the Doggers with points to spare, taking the game 82-67. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
In what's become a running theme this season, Guernsey-Sunrise gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. Everything went their way against Rock River as Guernsey-Sunrise made off with a 52-27 win.
Niobrara County pushed their record up to 13-4 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.2 points per game. As for Guernsey-Sunrise, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Everything went Niobrara County's way against the Vikings when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the Tigers made off with a 71-48 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Niobrara County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
