Softball Recap: Alta Has No Trouble Against Highland

Alta lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Highland, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. The Hawks blew past the Rams 19-3 on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hawks considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Danica Doyle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last four games she's played.

In other batting news, Bailey Thompson was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Anabel Velador, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Alta kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.

Alta's record now sits at 5-14. As for Highland, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Alta will welcome Skyline at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12 runs per game on average), something the Hawks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Highland, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against East at 3:30 p.m.
