Basketball Game Preview: Pamlico County Hurricanes vs. Roxboro Community Bulldogs

The Pamlico County Hurricanes will venture away from home to face off against the Roxboro Community Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Pamlico County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Clover Garden School as Pamlico County made off with a 62-40 victory. The Hurricanes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Roxboro Community put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Cape Hatteras 58-43. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 187th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 396th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Roxboro Community's win came from a few key players Pamlico County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Karrie Obie, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 15 boards. She has been hot, having posted 11 or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Katherine-Kaey 'Katie' Mann, who posted 15 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Roxboro Community smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Roxboro Community pushed their record up to 20-0 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.9 points over those games. As for Pamlico County, their record is now 22-5.

Pamlico County was able to grind out a solid victory over Roxboro Community in their previous matchup back in March of 2017, winning 59-47. Will Pamlico County repeat their success, or does Roxboro Community have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
