Baseball Recap: Lewis Comes Up Short

Lewis had lost seven straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-14 to make it eight. They came up short against the Hayfield Hawks, falling 16-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, with their most recent defeat being a 11-0 loss back in April.

As for Hayfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

For Hayfield's part, Drew Olson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Olson was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

In other batting news, Noah Laster and Jacob Bueno did most of the damage at the plate: Laster went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Bueno went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Laster a new career-high. Jack Ross was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Lewis does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hayfield, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 8-2 victory against Falls Church on the 20th.
