Basketball Recap: Marion Takes a Loss

Marion has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 62-43 bruising from the Cole Cougars on Tuesday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 63-56 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Marion lost, don't look at Braeden Fleming. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 15 en route to 18 points. Jaiden Riley was another key player, putting up six points and five boards.

Cole's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Logan Beckstrom, who went 7 for 14 on his way to 18 points and seven rebounds. The match was Beckstrom's 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Schonberg, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards.

Marion's defeat dropped their record down to 19-9. As for Cole, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-7.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Randolph the next time they take the court. Marion will host Randolph at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Cole will head out to face them at 8:00 p.m. on February 4th.
