Baseball Recap: Elbert Takes a Loss

Elbert had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-8 to make it eight. They came up short against Calhan, falling 14-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Calhan this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 on Monday.

Elijah Cornell and Grant Smith did some serious damage despite the final result: Cornell went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Smith went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That triple marked the first that Cornell has hit this season.

As for Calhan, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-8. That looming 14-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

On Calhan's side, the team relied heavily on Riley Cochran, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Cochran is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Josh Aguilar, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Coming up, Elbert will be playing in front of their home fans against Kiowa at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 11.5 runs per game this season. As for Calhan, they will venture away from home to take on St. Mary's at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.67 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
