Softball Game Preview: Springs Valley Blackhawks vs. Mitchell Bluejackets

The Springs Valley Blackhawks will take on the Mitchell Bluejackets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Monday, Springs Valley came up short against Eastern and fell 7-3. The Blackhawks haven't had much luck with the Musketeers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Lily Hickman was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double.

Hickman wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lola Kovas, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Mikaela Cavazos also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Mitchell was a bit more limited in their contest on Monday. They came up short against Bedford North Lawrence, falling 19-1.

Springs Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Mitchell, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
