Baseball Game Preview: Marshwood Hawks vs. Noble Knights

Marshwood has gone 7-2 against Noble recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Hawks will face off against the Knights at 3:00 p.m. Marshwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.

Marshwood took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Deering by a score of 9-4. The win continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won six in a row.

Marshwood got a great performance from Gus Alexander as he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

At the plate, Michael Sbrizza was excellent, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Gavin Villineau also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Marshwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deering only posted an OBP of .387.

Meanwhile, Noble fell victim to South Portland and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Red Riots. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Noble also got a good showing from Logan Kumar, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Noble now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Marshwood, their record is now 3-1.

Noble's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Marshwood has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. It's a different story for Noble, though, as they've only averaged .244. Will they be able to contain Marshwood's hitters?

Everything went Marshwood's way against Noble in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Marshwood made off with a 12-5 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
