Baseball Recap: Sedgwick County Takes a Loss

Sedgwick County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Akron, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cougars fell just short of the Rams by a score of 6-4 on Tuesday. The game marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Tate Renquist was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out 15 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Roman Kirk was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI.

Sedgwick County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Akron, they pushed their record up to 2-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Sedgwick County will venture away from home to challenge Wray at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Akron, they will host Yuma at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
