Baseball Recap: Niles West's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Niles West extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 13-14 in the process. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Maine East Blue Demons 5-3. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 7-0 victory on Tuesday.

Shaylen Patel tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kevin Foley was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Eli Ordower also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Niles West hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

As for Maine East, they are on a 15-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-18. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since April 8th.

On Maine East's side, Jackson Slamowitz was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Adolfo Lopez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

Coming up, Niles West will face off against Payton College Prep at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Grizzlies have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Maine East, they will square off against Niles North at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.
