Newton took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They took down the Eastside Eagles 39-24. This was payback for the Rams, who suffered a 26-15 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kevin Hartsfield, who rushed for 131 yards and one TD while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Darius White was in the mix as well, providing the Rams with two scores.

When it comes to explaining why Eastside lost, don't look at Myles Mims. Despite the final result, he rushed for 132 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Payton Shaw, who threw for 150 yards and one TD.

Newton wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 62-6 win against Alcovy on the 22nd. As for Eastside, they have also already played their next game, a 41-0 victory against Hiram on the 21st.
