Softball Recap: Ridgefield Has No Trouble Against Bridgeport Central

Ridgefield never let their opponents score on Thursday. They blew past the Bridgeport Central Hilltoppers 20-0. The Tigers have beaten the Hilltoppers the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Hilltoppers has come to flipping the script.

Caitlin McGratty and Sophia Cappiello were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, McGratty struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Cappiello struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). McGratty has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. At bat, McGratty went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run, while Cappiello went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ridgefield got a massive performance out of Summer Tammaro, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Grace Couch, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Ridgefield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .730. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Ridgefield picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Bridgeport Central, they dropped their record down to 2-3 with the loss, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.
