Basketball Recap: South Pontotoc Victorious

South Pontotoc was handed a heart-breaking three-point loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Bruce on Tuesday. The Cougars blew past the Trojans 59-37. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won seven in a row.

Despite the defeat, Bruce saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jermaine Jackson posted 11 points. Jackson is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Cayden Jones was another key player, putting up seven points and four steals.

South Pontotoc's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Bruce, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, South Pontotoc will challenge Lafayette at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars will be up against the Commodores' rather soft defense (which has allowed 57.75 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Bruce, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Vardaman at 7:30 p.m. on December 2.
