Baseball Game Preview: Washington County Commanders vs. Bardstown Tigers

For the second straight game, Washington County will face off against Bardstown. The Commanders will host the Tigers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

On Friday, Washington County was able to grind out a solid victory over Bardstown, taking the game 8-3.

Lance Coulter made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 6.2 innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Washington County is 5-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-12 otherwise. Coulter was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Jontate Smith was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Aydan Gonzalez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.

Washington County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-14 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Bardstown, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 16 of their last 17 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-21 record this season.
