Preview: University Hawks vs. Morgantown Mohigans
University is 2-8 against Morgantown since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The University Hawks will head out on the road to challenge the Morgantown Mohigans at 7:30 p.m. University has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 785 points over their last 11 matchups.
University can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent game on Monday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 73-28 victory over Bridgeport. Given University's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Bridgeport is ranked 65th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ella Simpson was her usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with six steals and five rebounds. She hasn't dropped below 17 points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Hannah Stemple, who scored 19 points.
Meanwhile, Morgantown's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They took a 57-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Blackhawk. That's two games in a row now that Morgantown has lost by exactly 13 points.
University has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for Morgantown, their loss ended a 13-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-7.
University lost to Morgantown on the road by a decisive 59-40 margin in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can University avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
