Softball Game Preview: Northwood Timberwolves vs. Woodbridge Warriors

Northwood is 1-9 against Woodbridge since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Timberwolves will head out on the road to take on the Warriors at 3:30 p.m. Northwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Northwood will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs two weeks ago, then bounced right back against University two weeks ago. The Timberwolves came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 11-7.

Natalie Keith was a standout: she scored four runs and stole three bases while going 5-for-5. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marissa Lee, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 4-for-5.

Northwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Woodbridge fell victim to Rosary Academy and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Royals. The Warriors' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Mia Tamkoc spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

Woodbridge's loss dropped their record down to 5-8-1. As for Northwood, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.

Woodbridge's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Northwood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. It's a different story for Woodbridge, though, as they've only averaged .216. Will they be able to contain Northwood's hitters?

Northwood came out on top in a nail-biter against Woodbridge in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Timberwolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
