Softball Game Preview: Sulphur Springs Wildcats vs. North Lamar Panthers

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Sulphur Springs Wildcats face off against North Lamar Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Tuesday, Sulphur Springs made easy work of Pittsburg and carried off a 9-1 victory. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Hannah Speed was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double.

In other batting news, Sulphur Springs let Bayler Boatman and Abbey Goldsmith run wild. Boatman went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Goldsmith went 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave Goldsmith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Thompson, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, North Lamar got themselves on the board against Paris on Tuesday, but Paris never followed suit. They blew past the Wildcats 19-0. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Sulphur Springs' victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for North Lamar, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.

Everything went Sulphur Springs' way against North Lamar in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Sulphur Springs made off with a 13-0 victory. Does Sulphur Springs have another victory up their sleeve, or will North Lamar turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
