Preview: Wood River Eagles vs. Cozad Haymakers

The Wood River Eagles are on the road again on Friday and play against the Cozad Haymakers at 6:15 p.m. on December 29th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Thursday, Wood River slipped by Cross County 51-50.

Meanwhile, Cozad put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They really took it to Superior for the full four quarters, racking up a 61-23 win at home. Given Cozad's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 11th, while Superior is ranked 244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Olliver Davis, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Cozad's points. Another player making a difference was Noah Shoemaker, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Wood River pushed their record up to 5-2 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Cozad, their win bumped their record up to 7-0.

Wood River didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Cozad in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 51-46 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Cozad's Cord Chytka, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Wood River to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
