Baseball Recap: South Mecklenburg Has No Trouble Against Berry

South Mecklenburg won the last time they faced Berry and things went their way on Tuesday too. The South Mecklenburg Sabres blew past the Berry Cardinals 14-4. The Sabres might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Christian Gregg made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Gregg was also big at the plate, scoring a run.

In other batting news, South Mecklenburg got a massive performance out of Michael Gamble, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Gamble is becoming a predictor of South Mecklenburg's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Pete Halstead was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

South Mecklenburg hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The win made it two in a row for South Mecklenburg and bumps their season record up to 4-3. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 11.5 hits in those games compared to only five in the others. As for Berry, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Mecklenburg will challenge Marvin Ridge at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Marvin Ridge 1.6, South Mecklenburg 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Berry, they will take on South Mecklenburg at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
