Baseball Recap: Independence Comes Up Short

Independence had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 7-8 to make it four. They came up short against the Mt. Pleasant Cardinals, falling 16-5. If the 76ers were looking for revenge after losing 25-1 to the Cardinals when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Elijah Todd made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. Independence is 2-1 when Todd posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-7 otherwise.

As for Mt. Pleasant, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games.

On Mt. Pleasant's side, Julian Saldana was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Saldana has posted since back in March. Isaac Salcido was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

While Independence had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
