Softball Game Preview: Rockwood Tigers vs. McMinn Central Chargers

The Rockwood Tigers will take on the McMinn Central Chargers at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

Rockwood came up short against Cumberland County two weeks ago, falling 25-11.

Meanwhile, McMinn Central had just enough and edged out Copper Basin 8-7 on Monday. With that win, the Chargers brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Lauren Peterson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up seven earned runs off 11 hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mirra Freeman and Riley Thompson did most of the damage at the plate: Freeman scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Thompson scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. The dominant performance gave Freeman a new career-high in hits. Jayme Tiberio was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

McMinn Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

McMinn Central now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Rockwood, their loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.
