Basketball Recap: Merrillville Comes Up Short

Merrillville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They lost to the Lake Central Indians on the road by a 77-58 margin. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pirates of the 64-48 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Zachary Greene was his usual excellent self, going 11 for 15 en route to 31 points along with seven boards and five assists for Lake Central. That makes it four consecutive games in which Greene has scored at least a third of Lake Central's points. Another player making a difference was Noah Enyeart, who posted 14 points and eight rebounds.

Merrillville's loss dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Lake Central, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Merrillville has already played their next match (against Laporte), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Lake Central will be playing at home against East Chicago Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season.
