Football Game Preview: Hamburg Lions vs. DeWitt Dragons

The Hamburg Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the DeWitt Dragons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Hamburg's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Hamburg and Star City have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. The Lions took their matchup with ease, bagging a 63-14 win over the Bulldogs. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 22 points or more this season.

Nikel Lewis was his usual excellent self, rushing for 146 yards and four TDs on only seven carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 54 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Ke'Ovion Brown also helped with two scores in total.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 15 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Charles Mooney, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, DeWitt didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Crossett on Friday, but they still walked away with a 12-6 victory. The Dragons haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

The victory got DeWitt back to even at 4-4. As for Hamburg, their record now sits at 7-1.

Hamburg took a serious blow against DeWitt in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 70-39. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Lions were down 41-17.
