Softball Recap: North Putnam Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

North Putnam extended their winning streak to three on Monday, bumping them up to 12-4. They came out on top against the Southmont Mounties by a score of 10-5. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Mounties, too.

Bella McElhany was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Hailee Daigle, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: North Putnam kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southmont only managed eight.

As for Southmont, with the defeat, they broke their nine-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-3. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this contest were averaging 2.13 runs allowed.

On Southmont's side, Ella Barry put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out 18 batters over 12.1 innings while giving up five earned (and five unearned) runs off 15 hits. Barry has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Kaylee Turner made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-6 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

North Putnam will have a chance to go back-to-back against Southmont: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
