Softball Recap: Geneva Continues Road Dominance on Thursday

Geneva entered their tilt with Winter Park on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 16-5 win. This was payback for the Knights, who suffered a 16-10 loss the last time these two teams met.

Bella Ortiz made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Geneva got a massive performance out of Ella Ingram, who went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. That's the most hits Ingram has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Peyton Clark, who went 1-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Geneva kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Geneva's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Winter Park, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-14.

Coming up, Geneva will challenge The First Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Winter Park, they will face off against Harmony at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats are facing the Longhorns at the right time seeing as the Longhorns are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
