Baseball Recap: Holgate Comes Up Short

Holgate had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-6 to make it six. They fell just short of the Hilltop Cadets by a score of 7-6. The Tigers were not able to make up for their loss to the Cadets from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Holgate saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zack Boecker, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Vincent Peck also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Hilltop, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games.

On Hilltop's side, Devin Dempsey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Dempsey has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anthony Jiannuzzi, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Holgate will welcome Stryker at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hilltop, they will challenge Montpelier at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cadets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Locomotives have averaged an impressive 11.1 runs per game this season.
