Baseball Recap: Moorpark Comes Up Short

Moorpark extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 10-11 in the process. They came up short against the Simi Valley Pioneers, falling 9-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Musketeers have suffered since March 12th.

Connor Tutino was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Moorpark saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nolan Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Simi Valley, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On Simi Valley's side, Jackson Goshorn tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Evan Rodriguez was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. Danny Pina was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

While Moorpark had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
