Preview: Islands Sharks vs. Memorial Day Matadors
Islands has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Memorial Day Matadors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 77-20, which was the final score in Islands' tilt against New Hampstead on Friday.
Meanwhile, Memorial Day's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 13th straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 59-28 loss at the hands of Twiggs Academy. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Memorial Day in their matchups with Twiggs Academy: they've now lost nine in a row.
Despite the loss, Memorial Day saw an underclassman step up: Charlotte Simon scored 14 points.
Islands dropped their record down to 0-14 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.8 points per game. As for Memorial Day, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-16.
Islands and Memorial Day were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but Islands came up empty-handed after a 30-29 loss. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Memorial Day's McKenzie King, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Now that Islands knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
