Softball Game Preview: Riceville Wildcats vs. Baxter

The Riceville Wildcats will face off against Baxter at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Baxter took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Riceville, who comes in off a win.

It was a proper cat-fight when Riceville faced off against Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Saturday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 13-6 victory. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Baxter was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Dunkerton.

Riceville is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Baxter, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.

Riceville got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in June of 2025 against Baxter by a conclusive 16-3 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do Baxter have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
