The Canyon View Jaguars are taking a road trip to square off against the Willow Canyon Wildcats at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Canyon View will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Canyon View is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: Verrado, who was ranked 14th at the time (Canyon View was ranked 12th). The Jaguars came out on top against the Vipers by a score of 7-2 on Thursday.
Emily Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Canyon View got a massive performance out of Anya Inzauro, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave Inzauro a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sedona Hernandez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, Willow Canyon made easy work of Lake Havasu on Thursday and carried off a 13-2 win. Considering the Wildcats have won 11 contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Lucy Burroughs looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mataya Olson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Izzy Ray was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run.
Willow Canyon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Havasu only posted an OBP of .318.
Willow Canyon pushed their record up to 15-7-1 with the victory, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Canyon View, their record is now 21-4.
Everything went Canyon View's way against Willow Canyon in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Canyon View made off with a 9-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
