Basketball Game Preview: Winner Warriors vs. Bon Homme Cavaliers

Winner is 9-1 against Bon Homme since December of 2014 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Winner Warriors will square off against the Bon Homme Cavaliers at 8:00 p.m. Winner is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51 points per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Winner strolled past Chamberlain with points to spare, taking the game 46-28. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Cubs are ranked 89th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Winner can attribute much of their success to Shawn Hammerbeck, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 15 points in addition to eight boards and four steals, and Carter Craven, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. The match was Craven's seventh in a row with at least ten points.

Winner smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Bon Homme was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Wagner, falling 62-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cavaliers have suffered against the Red Raiders since January 8, 2021.

Winner's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Bon Homme, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.

Winner took their victory against Bon Homme in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 55-34. The rematch might be a little tougher for Winner since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
