Football Game Preview: Chapel Hill Bulldogs vs. Pine Tree Pirates

The Chapel Hill Bulldogs will head out to take on the Pine Tree Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Chapel Hill took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Mabank 75-16. Considering the Bulldogs have won four matchups by more than 30 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Malik Gee had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 237 yards and six TDs on only 15 passes, while also rushing for 75 yards. His passing game has become a key predictor of Chapel Hill's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Damarcion Blaylock, who picked up 138 receiving yards and three scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Chapel Hill was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 272 rushing yards. They are a perfect 3-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

Chapel Hill's defense stepped up as well, laying out Jaxon Copeland eight times. The heavy lifting was done by Kaeden Franklin and Jeremiah White, who racked up six sacks between them. Franklin has been hot for a while, having also posted six or more total tackles the last 14 times he's played.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Pine Tree's strategy against Henderson on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Pirates blew the Lions out of the water with a 49-21 final score. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.

Chapel Hill's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Pine Tree, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Chapel Hill came up short against Pine Tree when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 20-14. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
