Baseball Game Preview: Blountstown Tigers vs. Cottondale Hornets

For the second straight game, Blountstown will face off against Cottondale. The Tigers will take on the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Blountstown heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Monday. They lost 10-3 to Cottondale. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Cottondale's part, Wyatt Speers made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 5.2 innings pitched. Speers has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Conner Barton, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Cottondale: the team is 9-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise.

The win (which was Cottondale's sixth in a row) raised their record to 16-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Blountstown, their loss dropped their record down to 10-17.
