Baseball Recap: Grassfield Drops Highest Score of Season Against Fairfax

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Grassfield). Everything went their way against the Fairfax Lions on Friday as they made off with a 16-4 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Grizzlies considering their one-run performance the match before.

Christian Coley made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Coley was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Giacomo Franco was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Grassfield is undefeated when Franco posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cayden McBride, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs.

Grassfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory got Grassfield back to even at 5-5. As for Fairfax, they dropped their record down to 3-8 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grassfield will challenge Forbush at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Fairfax, they will take on West Springfield at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
