Basketball Game Preview: North Sanpete Hawks vs. Carbon Dinos

North Sanpete hasn't had much luck against Carbon recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The North Sanpete Hawks will venture away from home to square off against the Carbon Dinos at 7:00 p.m.

Last Thursday, North Sanpete ended up a good deal behind Emery and lost 62-45. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, North Sanpete had strong showings from Malia Schlappi, who posted ten points and five steals, and Lucy Hiatt, who put up eight points. Schlappi is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elsie Bailey, who posted nine points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Carbon). They strolled past Delta with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 52-36. The victory was some much needed relief for the Dinos as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Carbon's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-12. As for North Sanpete, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.

North Sanpete was taken down by Carbon 71-39 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Thankfully for North Sanpete, Amiah Timothy (who went 10 of 19 on her way to 27 points along with seven boards and six assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
