Preview: Lincoln Southeast Knights vs. Omaha Northwest Huskies
Lincoln Southeast is 3-0 against Omaha Northwest since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Lincoln Southeast Knights will head out on the road to take on the Omaha Northwest Huskies at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Lincoln Southeast is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Omaha Northwest in Nebraska (Lincoln Southeast is ranked 41st, while Omaha Northwest is ranked 231st).
Lincoln Southeast unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 58-46 to Pius X. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Lincoln Southeast has scored all season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jake Hilkemann, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mike Ngoyi, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Omaha Northwest struggled with assists last Saturday (Millard North had 28 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Omaha Northwest was dealt a 90-33 defeat at the hands of Millard North. Omaha Northwest was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 56-19.
Omaha Northwest's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Michael Seals, who scored eight points, and Tony Smith who scored five points.
Omaha Northwest struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Lincoln Southeast's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-4. As for Omaha Northwest, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-7.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's matchup: Lincoln Southeast have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6.4 threes per game. It's a different story for Omaha Northwest, though, as they've been averaging only 6.9 threes per game. Given Lincoln Southeast's sizeable advantage in that area, Omaha Northwest will need to find a way to close that gap.
Lincoln Southeast took their victory against Omaha Northwest when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 86-60. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lincoln Southeast since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
