Basketball Recap: Jarrod Funk Key Part of a Team Effort in Gators Win

Port Allegany proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 22) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Kane Wolves, sneaking past 47-44. The Gators have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wolves, too.

Port Allegany's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jarrod Funk, who posted 12 points. Isac Amell was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 12 boards.

Port Allegany was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kane only racked up nine assists.

Preston Darr and Eric Novosel certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Darr went 9 of 18 en route to 23 points and five steals, while Novosel earned six points in addition to eight assists and four steals. Novosel is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played.

Port Allegany has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Kane, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-11.

Port Allegany has already played their next match, a 70-24 victory against Brockway on the 24th. As for Kane, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-31 win against Sheffield on the 24th.
