Baseball Game Preview: Michigan Lutheran Titans vs. River Valley Mustangs

Michigan Lutheran and River Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2023, but likely not for long. The Titans will square off against the Mustangs at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Michigan Lutheran will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Michigan Lutheran is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Eau Claire with a sharp 20-1 victory on Tuesday. With that win, the Titans brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

Ben Liebich was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Michigan Lutheran is 5-1 when Liebich posts three or more hits, but 5-9 otherwise. Micah Herbst was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Michigan Lutheran always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .719. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, River Valley came up short against Niles on Saturday, falling 12-1.

Michigan Lutheran is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for River Valley, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-10.

Michigan Lutheran suffered a grim 20-5 defeat to River Valley in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
