Basketball Recap: Ashland Takes a Loss

If Ashland was riding high fresh off their 57-33 takedown of Potts Camp last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Ashland Blue Devils fell to the Falkner Eagles 62-56. The Blue Devils were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 53-52.

Falkner's win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Elijah Mauney, who posted 23 points along with six boards and six steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Mauney has scored at least a third of Falkner's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Nunley, who put up 18 points and five steals.

Ashland has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Falkner, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ashland will take on Hickory Flat at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Falkner, they will take on Pine Grove in a tournament on Thursday.
