Mitchell is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took down Sturgis Brown 72-55 on Friday. Given the Kernels' advantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Scoopers are ranked 62nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Spearfish came up short against Huron on Friday and fell 67-54. The Spartans have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Mitchell pushed their record up to 12-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points over those games. As for Spearfish, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.

Mitchell strolled past Spearfish when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 59-45. Will Mitchell repeat their success, or does Spearfish have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
