Baseball Recap: Northview Sets Scoring Season-High Against North Putnam

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northview). Everything went their way against the North Putnam Cougars on Wednesday as they made off with a 9-2 win. The Knights have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougars, too.

Northview got a great performance from Trey Edlridge as he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Edlridge has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jackson Pierce was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Derek Morrison was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Northview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 11.6.

The victory made it two in a row for Northview and bumps their season record up to 5-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for North Putnam, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Northview has already played their next contest, a 9-4 defeat against Southridge on the 3rd. As for North Putnam, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 12-2 loss against Greencastle on the 2nd.
