Recap: Avon Park Red Devils vs. LaBelle Cowboys/Cowgirls
This season hasn't been kind to The Avon Park Red Devils, who are still winless after their eighth contest. They were the victim of a tough 32-10 defeat at the hands of LaBelle on Friday. Avon Park was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-0.
Tayon Jones threw for 79 yards on eight of 15 attempts. D'marcus Perry was his top target, picking up 42 receiving yards and no touchdowns. On the ground, Sebastian Fleurimont rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Among those leading the charge was Isaac Santamaria, who rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also threw for 20 yards and a touchdown.
Avon Park's loss was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-3 Frostproof and 6-2 Hardee (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 68.8% over those games). As for LaBelle, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avon Park's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Clewiston at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. LaBelle will take on Indian Rocks Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
