Baseball Recap: Villa Madonna Comes Up Short

Villa Madonna was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Summit Country Day Silver Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Silver Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-5 on Saturday.

Joe Rice was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Villa Madonna is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-6-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Villa Madonna saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Callioni, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Villa Madonna now has a losing record of 6-7-1. As for Summit Country Day, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1.

Looking ahead, Villa Madonna will head out to face off against Bishop Brossart at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Summit Country Day, they will be playing at home against Madeira at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
