Baseball Recap: New Prairie Sets Scoring Season-High Against South Bend Riley

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Prairie). Everything went their way against the South Bend Riley Wildcats on Wednesday as they made off with a 20-0 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Dylan Bishop tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Trent Mamazza and Riley Masters did most of the damage at the plate: Mamazza got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four RBI, one run, and one double, while Masters went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave Masters a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Bell, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

New Prairie kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory made it two in a row for New Prairie and bumps their season record up to 9-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for South Bend Riley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Prairie will head out to square off against La Porte at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Slicers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight. As for South Bend Riley, they will head out on the road to challenge Michigan City at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
